First of all, for progress and prosperity of the state and nation it is always necessary to take the path of unity and peace. If we look at the history of the first years of independence, we will see that a brutal civil war took place in Tajikistan, which caused fratricide, destruction and chaos.

Finally, on June 27, 1997 – after 8 rounds of negotiations (1994-1997) between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and representatives of the opposition, in Moscow, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and the head of the Tajik opposition union, Said Abdulloi Nouri, was signed the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan.

During the years of civil war (1992-1997) in the Republic of Tajikistan, more than 100,000 people were killed, and approximately more than one million people forced to migrate. The economic damage of this war in the Republic of Tajikistan amounted more than 10 billion US dollars.

The signing of the "General Agreement on the establishment of Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan" saved the country from the threat of destruction and the people from disintegration. According to the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On Holidays", June 27 has become an official state holiday in the Republic of Tajikistan as "Day of National Unity" which will be celebrated with great pomp every year.

Our people celebrate this day as a day of harmony, integration, peace, concord and sympathy. True national unity is impossible without the development of national thinking, national self-consciousness, the preservation of the language and customs of the country, and the development of national culture.

In fact, national unity is a great and sacred blessing, from which begins all progress, success and happiness of the people's life. National unity plays a vital role for the existence of our ancient nation along with the mother tongue and other basis of our statehood.

The widespread peace and unity of Tajikistan make its status well-known in the world. Today, the unity and solidarity of the Tajik people has become the subject of study by the UN and many organizations around the world. Self-consciousness and national art seem to be a reminder of the distant past and the rise of the country's spirituality. Only through unity and mutual understanding we can protect and preserve the independence of the country and strengthen the unity of the people.

It should be noted that there are still individuals and groups who want to disturb the unity and stability of our independent state by any means. Banned organizations disseminate false information on the Internet in order to weaken the positions of the Tajik state and its citizens on an international and regional image. They also want to achieve their preconceived goals, call for mass riots and instability in the country.

So, national unity is an expensive and rare gift that makes the nation great and the state more and more glorious. In the extremely difficult conditions of the clash of geopolitical interests of the superpowers in the region and the world, the threats and dangers of undesirable factors of the modern world, strengthening and realizing the reality of national unity and maintaining a stable political and ideological situation in the society plays a decisive role.
