Commemorating the 27th National Unity Day and the Peace Accord of June 27, 1997.

Asia, the world’s largest continent, thrives on stability and security. Strong economic growth and flourishing commercial ties across the region hinge on a peaceful geopolitical landscape. This is why stability, security, and regional cooperation are pivotal for fostering economic prosperity, particularly in areas like Central and South Asia.

Across Asia, countless voices have championed the importance of a secure and stable environment. Renowned figures like Muhammad Iqbal, Mirza Tursunzoda, and Faiz Ahmad Faiz have woven themes of peace and unity into their literary works, reflecting the region’s desire for progress.

Central Asia, particularly Tajikistan, offers a compelling example. Steeped in a rich cultural heritage that values hospitality, courage, and communication, the region boasts figures like Rudaki, Firdavsi, Saadi, Hafiz, Sadriddin Aini, and Mirza Tursunzoda, all celebrated for their wisdom and promotion of human connection. This emphasis on human connection aligns perfectly with the need for regional cooperation, a key factor in achieving stability and development.

Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Central Asian countries gained independence, opening doors for regional development efforts. This newfound independence fostered stronger collaborations with neighboring countries in South Asia and beyond, marking a new chapter in the region’s journey towards a more prosperous future.

Tajikistan’s journey towards national unity and stability stands as its greatest achievement since gaining independence, laying a crucial foundation for subsequent successes. This achievement is rooted in the region’s cultural heritage and the wisdom of its leaders, echoed by poets and writers who highlighted the importance of security and stability. President Emomali Rahmon’s visionary leadership played a pivotal role in guiding the nation through turbulent times, promising peace and prosperity to its people. The signing of the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan in Moscow on June 27, 1997, marked a historic milestone, solidifying national reconciliation and unity.

During this transformative period, Tajikistan’s efforts were bolstered by international support from organizations like the United Nations and neighboring countries such as the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Their contributions were instrumental in facilitating negotiations and promoting peace, underscoring Tajikistan’s commitment to regional stability and global cooperation. The General Agreement not only secured peace but also affirmed Tajikistan’s resilience and its role as a beacon of peacebuilding in the international community.

President Emomali Rahmon’s leadership during these critical times not only preserved Tajikistan’s cultural identity but also fostered a sense of national pride and unity among its people. His commitment to peace and stability resonated deeply, inspiring optimism and solidarity among citizens, reinforcing the values of freedom and prosperity that are essential for the nation’s continued development.

History demonstrates that 27 years ago, on June 27, 1997, Tajikistan, under the guidance of President Emomali Rahmon, demonstrated profound devotion, patriotism, and pacifism by resolving misunderstandings and conflicts through peaceful negotiations. This pivotal moment involved significant sacrifices and upheld their dignity on the world stage, establishing a distinguished legacy of peace and humanitarian progress recognized internationally.

The national unity of Tajikistan stands as the cornerstone of peace, stability, and prosperity in the country. It serves as the foundation for political and social stability, fostering a prosperous and tranquil life for its people and nurturing hope for a promising future.

The signing of the agreement on peace and national harmony marked the end of civil strife and ushered in an era of peace for Tajikistan. As the country approaches the 27th anniversary of celebrating “National Unity,” this occasion symbolizes rejuvenation and dignity, akin to the rejuvenation of nature in spring. Modern Tajikistan, known historically and regionally as the “Movarunnahr” or “Transoxiana” region, boasts abundant natural resources and a rich cultural heritage admired by historians and Middle Eastern countries alike. Tajikistan’s leadership has recognized the importance of these resources and has taken proactive steps to harness them effectively on the global stage for the benefit of humanity.

Significantly, Tajikistan has actively and consistently advocated for global water issues over the past two decades, playing a pivotal role in the UN’s humanitarian programs. Initiatives such as establishing the UN Group of Friends of Water in 2009 and the Group of Friends of Glaciers in 2023 underscore Tajikistan’s commitment to valuing and responsibly managing this vital resource. This dedication is further highlighted through forums and conferences like “Clean Water,” “Water for Life,” and “Water for Sustainable Development” (2018-2028), which are regularly organized to address global water challenges.

These efforts have not only strengthened Tajikistan’s international standing but have also fostered bilateral and multilateral agreements with countries across Central Asia and South Asia. Agreements such as CASA-1000 (electricity transmission project involving Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan) and TAPI (natural gas transmission project involving Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India) are crucial for regional economic development and enhance interregional social relations and global trade.

Moreover, amidst global progress and prosperity, the world continues to yearn for the invaluable qualities of peace and unity. Afghanistan, serving as a geographical bridge between Central Asia, South Asia, and West Asia, holds strategic importance for regional stability and expansion across Asia. The South Asian region acknowledges the significance of organizations like SAARC, recognizing their potential to forge a common cultural and diplomatic foundation for a prosperous and harmonious life among its diverse inhabitants.

Regional experts and analysts emphasize the pivotal role of South Asia in fostering regional development and stability. They advocate for wise leadership that adopts humanitarian strategies to bolster trade policies, eradicate war and illiteracy, enhance friendships, promote common languages, and foster cultural exchange. These efforts are seen as essential pillars for sustainable development, aiming to transform the region into a new hub for commerce, travel, and industry within Asia and globally.

Tajikistan’s School of Peace and Unity exemplifies its commitment to safeguarding regional interests, ensuring fairness and efficacy in its policies. As active members of the UN and SCO, Tajikistan and its peace-loving populace contribute to global environmental preservation and sustainable peace, reflecting an open-door policy strategy. This approach not only supports regional prosperity but also enhances global ecological harmony and economic stability.

Amidst ongoing geopolitical challenges and globalization, there is a growing imperative to prioritize stability, peace, and unity. Tajikistan stands as a beacon of humanitarian integration and cooperation, striving to protect its region and people from external threats and divisive forces.

Today, Tajikistan’s pursuit of peace and unity serves as a model studied by international institutions, particularly the UN, bringing pride to its citizens and showcasing its success to the world. This commitment underscores the belief that unity, prosperity, safety, and peace are essential for overcoming global threats and risks. Acknowledging China’s emergence as a global power, Tajikistan advocates for the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, promoting mutual respect, non-aggression, non-interference, equality, and cooperation for mutual benefit.

Through cultural diplomacy and the PEACE formula pioneered by Tajikistan’s School of Peace and Unity, efforts are intensified to promote peace, prosperity, and sustainable economic projects, fostering cooperation and coordination to eliminate threats and public risks. Such initiatives aim to inspire and unify diverse communities towards a progressive future.

Collectively, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and India, as advanced nations with robust military, economic, industrial, and commercial sectors, play influential roles in global organizations such as the UN, SAARC, CICA, and SCO. Their collaborative efforts are instrumental in guiding the region towards peace and prosperity, positioning it as a progressive force on the global stage.

In conclusion, the strategic cooperation between South Asia and Central Asian countries, particularly Tajikistan, is crucial for economic, commercial, and cultural development, enhancing stability and security across the region. By fostering peace and cooperation, these partnerships lay a solid foundation for the region’s economic and cultural growth, promoting psychological and spiritual stability among its people.
